This is an intensely personal piece for me…and it is how I would like to leave this world: peacefully, calm in the knowledge that caring people hold me in their love. It was inspired by the sight of my 92 year-old father in a hospital bed after a heart attack. The saintly female figures are my sisters, who nursed and cared for him, and the upper male figure is me, supporting my sisters. The piece sums up the work done by hospice workers as they minister to those in the last stages of life. Note that the man’s toes are already growing into the ground as he prepares for his journey for the great beyond that looms behind him. Note also the headstone-shape in the arch above him.
